Never had persimmon? If so make sure the first one you try isn't quite ripe. I've never had pawpaw either. They say they grow a little east of here but I've never seen one. Would like to try growing them but what I've read says it's tough. We have native mulberry. They are related to osage orange which does great here. I have some Che planted. Also called Chinese Mulberry. Che is closely related to osage orange and actually grafted to osage orange roots. I'm thinking lots of grafting possibilities if I ever learned how.

They are said to be native’ish’ and there is a persimmons orchard 90 mins north of me so i should be good. Deff never seen either tree ever in the woods.

I believe Cat is messing with you about eating a not completely ripe persimmon. I'd suggest not doing that, at least with American persimmon varieties White mulberries (morus alba) can be tasty, or not so much. Many of the wild ones are pretty "blah". Everything I've heard/read about Illinois Everbearing indicates it is likely the best variety for growers into zone 5. Mine didn't survive winters here. My Trader mulberries have come through some wicked winters, but so far they've had very few fruits (planted in September of '15). The few I tasted were small, but tasty.

I’m supposed to be getting some Trader mulberries from Jim Walla this spring.
