Gray wolves were once hunted to the brink of extinction in the lower 48 states, but they recovered under Endangered Species Act protections and reintroduction programs. They now number around 5,500, including about 400 in Wyoming, according to the Fish and Wildlife Service.
What a bunch of bullshit. 5500 in the lower 48?

I know what "they say". MN has 2500 or whatever it is. We gave out 400 permits a few years ago, and they were filled with ease. Tell ya what, if there were only 2500 deer in all of northern MN, I can pretty much gaurantee you it would be impossible to fill 400 tags. How the hell was it that simple to shoot 400 wolves? Maybe because there are far more than 2500 running around is my theory..... There is no way in hell you could kill 400 deer out of 2500 deer up in those vast expanses of woods and swamps if thats all you had for numbers to hunt. No freekin way!

In Idaho they say the population is a minimum of 786 wolves. So far there have been 185 killed, last season there was 271. idfg.idaho.gov/hunt/wolf/quotaSome areas are very difficult to hunt, so they have unlimited quotas. Also, there was some dumbass in Idaho that shot two german shepards and posted it on instagram saying they were wolves. Someone managed to get some screenshots before he deleted them. Said he left his backpack laying on the ground and was circling around and saw them laying near his backpack. So likely not even feral. www.rokslide.com/forums/general-discussion-forum/62562-wolf-killer.html
