Has to be one of the prettiest trees. I’m going to plant one in my yard. Anyone plant Sugar Maple on their hunting land or have natural maples?
I know it’s not a real popular idea, due to seeds. But just curious.

I'd go with an improved variety of maple like Autumn Blaze for a yard tree.

I’ve looked at the maples on my property and I’ve got very few sugar maples. 90% of my maples are red/soft maples. I’d always assumed I had mostly sugar.

I was seeing maples all over this weekend. Made me think doing a mod to my silky holster to also hold a roll of flagging tape. Would have been nice to be able to mark all those.

Yup. I have zero yard trees. My old place was covered up with all kinds of trees. Leaves/sticks/seeds/etc. all over the place. I had to clean gutters on my rental place 3-4 times a year. Had I ended up staying there, I would have sprung for leaf guards of some sort on the gutters. When I moved here I said no yard trees....and there are none. It will stay that way.

Yep, every trip down to Missouri I plan a 1/2 hour of picking up sticks from them sugar maples before mowing. That is one thing I won't miss. But cleaning the gutters just sucks. Another thing I won't miss.

I think Sugar Maple are fairly shade tolerant. We plan on cutting down junk trees in a grove (not a hunting spot) and re-planting some fast growing trees to improve the looks.
Sugar Maple, Hackberry are 2 on the list. Any others that would fit?
Autumn Blaze would be an option as well.

Sugar maples are indeed shade tolerant. They aren't fast growing though

Sugar maples are indeed shade tolerant. They aren't fast growing though Probably Autumn Blaze if we want a faster growing maple? Silver Maple grows fast, but this would not be the area for it. Red Oak will be one we will plant in the sunny areas.

Red Oak will be one we will plant in the sunny areas. Autumn Blaze will grow much more quickly than sugar maple.

Probably a mix of both A Blaze and Sugar
This will be my sons place--8 acres and he loves to plant trees. 3 mature producing apple trees, and he will add more.

I think sugar maples are hands down the most attractive native tree for fall colors. Autumn Blaze and October Glory are great additions.
