Apple guys, looks cold this weekend. How will this affect the Apple trees? Three evenings of 30 degrees forecast.

30 isn’t so bad. We’re forecasted for 25. That might take it up the poop shoot.

I had almost a complete crop failure due to frost a few years ago.
Plant a few on a north or east slope and it might help.

I always thought if you planted before Memorial Day weekend you risked a freeze killing your plantings.

We have lows down into the upper 20s here later this week. Most of the crops are in but farmers are waiting with the beans. We are waiting till next weekend to plant just to be safe. We are so dry the little bit of rain helped with the dirt work
If anyone figures out how to spray and throw corn and beans let me know. I am tired of disking to plant them.

I believe average lost frost date for my area is around May 15, so freezing weather at this time isn't a shocker. The issue is that the warm(ish) spring got trees awake a bit early. Many of my fruit trees are barely at green tip. A couple pears are at tight cluster and almost at first white, so they may be in trouble if we get into the low 20s. My most advanced apples are tight cluster bordering on first pink. If we get into the upper teens, there will be major losses. If we don't dip below 24 or 25, there should still be some fruit.
I noticed today that at least some burr oaks are greening up. I hope they avoid acorn damage from the low temps. Last year was a shitty year for burr oak acorns here, this year should be a good one if the weather cooperates.

We had snow flurries this morning. It finally got up to 36 about 200pm. I checked a few trees and they're at green tip.

That’s an accurate chart. The only thing that might save a degree or more would be to have an orchard with early morning sun exposure to warm things up quicker. Don’t plant in lower pockets/hollows and they take longer to warm up as well. You Minnesota guys don’t have hollows like we have in the northeast.

I hear them when my wife gets mad!

Thanks for posting this, looks like I'm in the clear for this cold spell. Forecasted low is 29 Thursday night and most of my trees look like they are silver or green tip. Zestar is probably the farthest along.

This Thursday/Friday i will be picking up my order of Prairie Forbe plugs and Hawthorn trees from the Crow Wing County Soil and Water District. I had planned on planting the trees and plugs this weekend but won't be able to plant the flowers but the trees I can plant.
