these two spots are within about 50 yards of each other and I'm kind of debating on what I should do here they are both planted in rye and Alice clover last year. The longer one stays pretty darn wet for most of the year. I'm thinking of just spraying the rye with cleth as this one does have a decent amount of clover showing and maybe this fall overseeding with more clover and rye and then maintain this as clover plot. Sorry forgot to snap a pic of the longer one The smaller one has a decent amount of rye coming in but I think I want to try brassica here but I'm debating on whether the available sunlight will allow them to grow Are you getting much bedding in the HP? Are there many windfalls in there? I took some pictures for you today art what spruce would you suggest? I'm guessing were going to need to start planting something as these are starting to die.

Can you just mow the clover rye plot in August when the grain is mature?

I'm guessing were going to need to start planting something as these are starting to die. I would suggest white spruce, however last week my forester said that he felt Norway spruce would grow faster as an understory. I though Norway spruce did best on heavier soil, he said not necessarily. Final answer, plant both.

Well today I seeded buckwheat for future throw and roll plots for later this summer. Were actually supposed to get rain this weekend unless the weather man lied to me again. I would like to have waited till closer to the rain event but the time I had was today. first few spots are right next to each other. one was killed sod from last year and the other was left over sorghum plot. I seriously debated on whether to seed and spray and walk away or to drag after seeding. I ended up dragging as I thought that mulch layer was just to thick and the best buckwheat that I ever grew was in sprayed sod and the was then dragged. Was I wrong? I did leave a few strips to test if I was right or not. First picture is of the sod before planting and dragging. this will be a radish/turnip mix opposite view after dragging and a comparison strip of dragged and undragged

This spot was planted with rye last year , I am going to leave it buckwheat if the deer leave it alone, I want to see what it looks like next spring for turkey hunting if it lasts that long being so small then after spraying this I will leave standing and just let the rye fall on its own

Looks good Lee, lots of different food sources. Deer don't browse buckwheat much at my place but my neighborhood has allot of soybeans around.
Your place Dry? Mine is bad so I'm also hoping for rain.

Its bad dry again at our place. Gonna be watering apple trees this weekend. Plots are hosed if something doesnt bring some water soon. Glad I am not in deep on the plots this year.

Well I had to breakdown and ask my farmer nephew to disk up this corner field. with the lack of rain and heavy weed preassure, I knew My milo millet combo that I had broadcasted had no chance. So early June 6th he disked and I proceeded to seed then drag the plot right before we got a little bit of rain. Planted a version of this mix and today it looks like this, I sure hope we get the rain that they say were supposed to get tomorrow night Sunflowers are spotty but since my spreader wasnt behaving I had to hand spread so that may be the reason.

Agreed, it's drier then I've ever seen it. Lots of crops turning yellow in our part of mn. Planted a mix of alfalfa and brassicas today in hopes of getting some of this upcoming rain.
