Went 3 for 3 yesterday. In total, I've caught 6 so far in 4 dog proof traps. They'll pull out of the trap occasionally, but I still seem to catch them eventually. And yes, I called the dnr and told them I was nuisance trapping at my place.

A friend of mine sent this to me. He caught Pocket Gophers in late December?? Never heard of that .

We saw pocket gopher mounds as far south as southern Arkansas. I had no idea the little bastards were that wide spread

I think they create artificial tunnels there laced with strychnine gopher bait. They are used in certain soils and often in young pine plantations. I hear that in some very Sandy soils, the artificial tunnels just collapse.

I noticed a couple new mounds yesterday. Threw 3 Gopherhawks around the mounds and figured with the cold weather I'd get nothing.
Wrong, just pulled the first one of the year out of the ground. The trap only had him by the leg, so I gave him a couple head taps with the re-rod probe. It was a good sized one, I hope I prevented a bunch more from being born.
