Acid Rain? But seriously, PH, mineral content of rain has to be different than ground water.

I think it brings enough topsoil outta the air to make a good shot of fertilizer. My mom and I were having this exact conversation last night. We both noted that the gardens were growing way more with the rain than from watering. We were speculating it might be that when you water you might not get as much moisture as you think or get more run off vs a soaking rain. Hadn’t thought about the water quality. Not sure if your comments have any publications behind it SD, but the science would seem to make sense I'll finish this one. The U had this to say about it. It doesn't seem like much when you look at total crop needs for a season, but when you break it down to 2 weeks worth of moisture in one shot, it's a potent dose of soluble fertilizer. blog-crop-news.extension.umn.edu/2020/09/measuring-nutrients-in-rainfall-what.htmlWhen it gets dry, the bare ground guys send their best 3 tons of organic material per acre to the east. Might as well be to our place. The best yielding hay ground in the country is right next to the plowed fields.

Fired up the pumpkin sprinkler again. This may be an exercise in futility.

Fired up the pumpkin sprinkler again. This may be an exercise in futility. My vine crops were doing poorly during the drought and I gave them a very weak dose of Boostem. I maybe mixed it at .1 strength or weaker, It seemed to help.

Rain vs sprinkling..... Zero argument.... Rain works better on EVERYTHING.
Sprinkling keeps stuff going, but it doesnt flourish like a nice douse of water from the sky.

Fired up the pumpkin sprinkler again. This may be an exercise in futility. Are they big enough now you could mulch them?

My pumpkins aren't doing as well as normal either. I've had good luck sprinkling urea or other fertilizer I have on hand around the plants whenever i can prior to a rain. It has been so dry I haven't fertilized most of the plants yet. They can make up ground fast, so I still have some hope for a decent crop if the weather improves.

I will probably pick up some Miracle Grow bloom booster 15-30-15 the next time I'm at Walmart. Fired up the pumpkin sprinkler on a different section of the houseplot tonight. I figure I can hit most of the pumpkins/squash from three sprinkler positions. I'll soak each section for 2 hours in the evenings, once a week...or until the fucking rain returns.

I’m guessing mine are cooked. Will see them tomorrow evening.
I have a couple packets of 80 day squash I’ll soak and plant if I don’t have anything going on in my patch.

I thought you'd had a few inches of rain up there? We've had a couple. My fingers are crossed. But, it's the first time I've tried pumpkins so I have no idea what to expect.
