The roo got a pcv valve replaced today. They’re telling me that’s where my oil consumption is going. That make sense? Since the Big Bang, it’d had been eating about a quart per 5000 miles.

Probably could. Plug the vent and seal the system with moving parts inside... create a pressure gradient and boom, you have oil usage or blown gaskets.

I don’t think a modern vehicle in good repair should be burning a quart of oil every 5K miles.
Am I wrong?

I don’t think a modern vehicle in good repair should be burning a quart of oil every 5K miles. An I wrong? As long as he isn't using oil due to bad rings, scored cylinders, head gaskets, or worn valve seals it should just be chalked up to normal wear items and general maintenance. PVC valves are no big deal. Of course everything is now suspect since he had the runaround with the repairs on his wreck. Would hope it's not related to that.

Suburu has had recalls on their PCV valves I've found. Not my model, but later models.

I had a 95 Escort that was over 200,000 miles and never needed to add any oil then one day the oil pressure warning light came on. I had to add two quarts to fill it up. A week later the same thing happened. Two quarts low. I thought I was going to have to scrap the car but after a little online searching I replaced the PCV valve. Oil consumption went back to about normal. When I replaced the valve there was water in it. This was in the winter and I think when sitting it would freeze completely blocking the valve.
