Buried in the back of the ODN, there's an article on a push in congress to get the wolf delisting done before calving gets underway in the great lakes states. No word on the chances of it, or whether Paul Ryan even responded to getting it done quickly. But there's at least a few guys working on it, including MN's own Colin Peterson. So it's at least bipartisan in that sense, about 2% of the DFL in congress are behind it. I hope they just get it done so we can move on from this bullshit.

Amen. Wolves don't really impact me but I feel for the folks that have them. That would suck... They need to be controlled.

Even Klobuchar is supporting it.

Even if the bill passes it will give little relief to Wisconsin and Minnesota as the limited hunting and trapping that will be allowed by the state plans are ridiculous.

Even Klobuchar is supporting it. Both of Wisconsin Senators are also supporting, one D one R. www.jsonline.com/story/news/2017/01/17/baldwin-johnson-back-bill-delist-wolf/96687794/Even if the bill passes it will give little relief to Wisconsin and Minnesota as the limited hunting and trapping that will be allowed by the state plans are ridiculous. One step at a time. First make it legal to hunt wolves and then we can work on increasing the amounts able to hunt. In Wisconsin I would be all for working towards the original goal of 350 wolves. I don't think they need to be wiped out but kept in check.

If we can just wrestle control back from the courts we could work with the DNR on better management.
Ok, well maybe at least it won't mean prison time for the SSS guys.

So with the DNR's last estimate of 850 there would be no hunting or trapping season.

I'm thinking the new "private trailcam studies" that the DNR is asking folks to participate in will eventually show the 850 number to be a total lie.

They were working on a new Wolf plan when the Judge stopped state management. When that happened they stopped working on it. You may be right that they were going to increase the numbers, but I still believe the 350 would still be a valid minimum number (at least in my mind).

You may be right on the relief from hunting, but it will give management back to the state, and thus to the trappers aligned with the State of MN to deal with problem animals. The State of Minnesota's trapping system allows the trappers to be proactive and take care of problem animals BEFORE they kill livestock. With a much larger state vs fed trapper network, they are also able to respond quicker and stay longer to deal with nuisance critters. I know some cattle ranchers that will be excited about that!

One of my neighbors raises registered Angus and has the state approved certification. He helped remove some wolves before the last court ruling.

I ran into a congressman at a hotel breakfast area a couple years ago and talked to him for 20 mins about a couple different things. When it came to wolves he said that it was ok to do SSS. So legally I think I have been covered since then.
