Just for shits and giggles, I decided to try it. It's not bad. It does seem to have less caffeine and I don't quite feel so shitty mid morning after drinking a few cups of it. I can feel my antlers really filling out as the last few weeks of growth wrap up.

Did you use chicory you grew and grind the root?
It doesn't have to dry first?

I've thought about trying it since I like to grow it so much. Haven't yet. Thanks for the reporting!

Well hell, I thought you did it yourself... that's what I'm considering. I've made bread from wheat I planted, harvested and cleaned grain by hand, and made into flour with a blender. Doing stuff yourself can be kind of neat.

Doing stuff yourself can be kind of neat. I'm with ya man. But digging up my food plot when it's 90 degrees and 174% humidity isn't my thing. That's one of those "write the check Foggy" moments. I do enjoy home bushcrafting though. I helped my buddy DC Eric and Piano Holly move their family into their new house this weekend. We got to talking about maybe putting together a sweetcorn canning crew yet this month. Don't know if I want to tackle that deal. I would want to can (jar-shelf stable / not bag-freeze) mine. If they did too, we wouldn't have enough capacity.

I've never had straight chicory coffee, but I've had chicory blended with regular coffee. Great stuff

Several years ago, I dried some chicory roots and tried to make coffee with them. Evidently it's not the same type of chicory as the stuff you buy. Mine was baaaaad.

There is a special recipe for that. Harvest chicory roots. Dry and grind them. Make a regular pot of coffee and mix the used grounds with the ground and dried chicory. Pour some of the coffee you just made In a cup and add brandy. Throw out the used grounds. I think this isolation is getting to me, or else I have Joe Biden disease.

I'd think a true JPS would have perfected Chicory coffee by now. The cowboys always drank chicory coffee. I may not understand how to do it.....but I did pull up a number of roots some years ago. I dried them in the sun......and then in the microwave. ground them up (they were WHITE!??). and tried to brew some coffee. Tasted pretty much like owl piss. I dont get it. I know you can buy chicory coffee online.......and I am just too cheap to do that. Most folks blend it with "real" coffee. Dunno.

Like coffee beans, chicory roots are roasted. That's where the flavor comes from.

My guess is that commercial chicory coffee is roasted in coffee roasters...but that's just a guess. I imagine about the only way to do it at home would be in your oven on the highest temp setting. I have zero idea if any other additives (oil of some kind?) are included when roasting chicory. Coffee beans have some natural oils, so I would think they are roasted "as is". edit...here ya go www.roastycoffee.com/chicory-coffee/
