I think we counted 27 pumpkins in our little garden patch. Quite a few carvers too. Planning on planting a strip of them in our field next year. I only planted pumpkins once......and it was very successful for deer.....even though I only planted a couple dozen plants. Man the deer kicked those pumpkins open and ate 'em till they were gone. The one problem I see is weeding a pumpkin patch. Maybe there is RR pumpkin seeds today? If so, I'd give em another go. EDIT: I just did a google search for RR seeds. Pumpkins are not on the list of RR seeds..... but Squash is. Do deer like squash? They ate a truckload in 3 weeks last time I did it.

Did you cut the back off your butched-up Subaru for these pics? Grin. (your imagination is your gift....to whom I am not sure). Some would say: "All hat - no cattle". Me?.....I like your "spunk".

Couldnt u burn the piles down some? I’ve tried. It’s so dense and full of dirt that I can’t get air in there to make combustion. Diesel fuel just burned on top. Maybe if I try next year in the middle of July while things are real good and dry. 🤪 Or I can just leave them where they are and be satisfied with killing a buck or two a year the way it is. Go with your gut Kooch. If those piles aren’t hurting anything then leave them and do your other projects. I like those pockets that you’re cutting along the edges. Keep doing that stuff. We burn the piles from the openings we make because it gives us something to do on a cold winter day it were not dealing with any mixed with dirt.

Cover the piles with winter rye seed? Billy goat deer climbing the piles to eat. I'm getting geared up to plant hard neck garlic in the hoog box this fall. They don't give that shit away either. I'm gonna have to put my thinking on to get ahold of some mn grown bulbs. Not gonna lay down $100 for a fist full of garlic seed. I've got a pumpkin plant going like hell in it now that may just put on a carver yet this year. I’d just go to the store and buy heads of garlic. That’s what we’ve done and it works. The bigger bulbs do produce the larger heads of garlic.

I would push those piles where you need a blockade and then use them to your advantage. Don’t waste time fighting them.

Maybe it works on brush piles?

I bought a 1000 pound tote of 20-10-10 fertilizer this spring and I think that would be great to break down mulch piles. It keeps stays wet and slimy longer than urea. I put some on my dump truck load of wood chips and they have condensed down a lot in 6 months and the inside stays wet.
The fertilizer leaked through the tote bag and even made the pallet all mushy.

Battery acid from a tipped over battery has made my boat floor soft. Worth a try?

Our cats use my wood chip pile as a kitty litter box and it produces some odd looking mushrooms after a heavy rain.

I think SD has been on a mushroom diet since he got his cat and them chips. Gotta give him credit.....he lost some weight and his cat eats well. Reminds me of a sign my dad had in his office: "If you want good clean oats.....you must pay a fair price.
But if you can be satisfied with oats that have already been through our horse......Well, those come a little cheaper".
