Is it too late to put in a Brassica plot? (DER/ GHR/ PTT). I have a long strip (25' x 100 yards) where I just placed a box blind. (this spot also has 25'x100 yards corn strip and 25'x 100 yards soybean strip. -- three long fingers extend from the blind.). I nuked the weeds the other day....and it's easy to work up the plot and I could spread a little fertilizer on this plot.
I am either going to put clover and Rye on it.....or put down the brassica mix. What say you?-----the brassica or clover/rye?? Would put it in on Tuesday.....and it looks lie I will be rain dancing on Thursday (good chance of a rain).

I just tilled and planted winter rye/GHR yesterday in a small plot. Go for it.

Throw it all down foggy. You’ll get something from it you rain hogging whore you. Be careful......or I'll strike you with a lightning bolt. . Grin. I have learned by living here a few years....that somehow we get some pretty good rainfalls coming together in our area. I wonder if the lakes brew rainfall? .....or if those storms that start in eastern Dakotas and western MN....just need to drop a load here? Dunno....but my place has been golden on rainfalls......and with my sandy land.....I am grateful for regular rainfall.

Feels like we have a dome over us now. No rain shall pass. Miraculously my plots are still hanging in there. Not sure if the younger ones will survive the next 4 days without a little rain though. We watered tomatoes and peppers in the garden last night at 5pm. This morning at 10 am the soil surface where we watered was still wet. I almost shit myself. Perhaps the moisture holding capability of our soil in the hills is better than I thought.

It is getting pretty late for brassica, especially as far north as you are. I say skip the brassica and put down a mix of rye, oats, wheat and winter peas.

one of my no-till brassica plots is starting to fill in nicely with the recent rain and cooler temps. Hopefully it draws in an older buck or two. Very little action here so far, but hopefully that changes

I planted a mix of dwarf Essex rape and groundhog radishes around July 10th. The radishes have larger seeds and they didn't seem to do as well as the rape.
Early on the areas with less thatch looked better, but now the opposite is true and the heavy thatch areas have fewer weeds and larger brassicas.
