Hey guys! I had some friends planted a bunch of apples 10 years ago. The deer really seem to prefer one variety. The tags are all missing on the trees now though. Any guess on what this may be? The apple was bright red a couple weeks ago. As you can see the color has darkened since then. A lot of the apples are off the tree now and they are pretty loose when you go to pick them today in Southern WI. It browns very fast when eating it. It tasted very good today. We’re guessing that it maybe an enterprise or freedom??? Thanks!

Ark. Black, Black Oxford, Liberty, any number of others. Pretty much impossible to ID an apple from a pic

I’m leaning Arkansas Black as the Black Oxford are more a northeast apple until recently whrnnthe heritage apples became popular.

I do know that Crazy Ed and some other guys were grafting and growing Black Oxford in WI at least 10 years ago. I got scions from him back in '11. I didn't get any takes, but I know he had a tree with enough growth to get scions anyway. If I recall correctly, Black Oxford was a variety that Ben Hooper used to recommend on the old Q forums. That had to be 15 years ago or more.
