I had an unstaked cage blow over two days ago. I'd guess that in areas where the wind isn't so crazy, a guy could get away without staking cement wire cages for the most part. In high DPSM areas, I think you'll find deer will push the cages around though. Yeah id assume they would where im planting, way to many deer.

I have had wind blow unstaked cages over. Like 10-15 foot cement wire cages?

I have had wind blow unstaked cages over. Like 10-15 foot cement wire cages? I usually go 15 footers and yes they did blow over. I think wind is one of the factors in many of our trees being shorter. Lighter soils are probably also a factor.

Mine probably don't get tipped over as much by wind because I'm not always good at keeping the weeds and briars cut back around my cages.

If you have full size trees for personal use your fence should be larger than 15'. I have trees in my personal orchard where I need to swap-out the fence because the limbs are growing to the edge of the fence and deer are browsing them.
I plan on starting to train these trees this year and I need larger fences.
