Any of you guys ever changeover your grass to clover at home? I mean killing your lawn with roundup and then planting a low growing clover like white Dutch. The new place I'm getting at the end of January has a huge yard with nothing but grass. I thought I might spray a piece of it with roundup and then plant some clover. Kinda have a dual use for the lawn. Feed deer and easy to maintain.

Do a search on clover lawns. Lots of good info out there. Combined with the knowledge here...cant lose. Im definitely doing a clover lawn at my new place here in the country.
I believe you want both grass and clover as each feeds to other. So over seeding or frost seeding the clover and not killing the grass may be the way you want to go

Dandelion don’t bother me too much. Quack grass is fine.

My neighbor put in a white dutch/grass lawn. It looks great. Very lush though, you have to wait until afternoon for it to dry out and mow (not a problem for a retired guy). I frost seed a few lbs of white dutch and grass into my lawn every year. Helps to keep weeds down.

I almost did it but went with fescue instead. There are some clover varieties intended for yard use. I think I had looked pretty close at some of the microclovers.
I hit some large clumps of clover in my yard last summer thinking the Buffalo grass would take over. Nope... my hated crabgrass stepped in.

I've thrown in some clover seed to my yard over the years. This past year plantain and creeping charlie were taking over in some areas, so much of the yard got hit with broadleaf killer. Will be looking to start adding clover back in next year.

Common for me to save some seed from plotting and put in it. Even water it sometimes just to see what "should" be happening in the plots. Deer like the yard... I would be afraid to plant the whole yard on a experiment the first try. How does the wifeypoo feel about clover?

Clovers were encouraged in lawns way back when until chemical/fertilizer companies started marketing that clover was a weed. What a crock! They created a whole new market of lawn chemcials and fertilizers.
My wife doesn't like my idea to get some clover going and reducing the need for fert.

I have clover on one of my banks by the lake. Works great . If I bordered an area by woods I’d add more. Good idea!
How big of an area are you talking?

I've got a friend who wants clover at his lake house. The driveway is steep and rock, it washes out like crazy. The rest of the yard is forest. He literally has no grass whatsoever and doesn't even keep a mower. In his search to hold the drive together with roots of some sort he came across a clover that would work. The wife said NO! She absolutely hates clove. It's a weed. No clover in HER yard. No clover in her drive. No clover!

It'd be a test plot to start out and then make it bigger as the years go on.

The local gals will be all over you I see no problem with this. Just as long as he remembers his "sworn bachelor" oath. Enjoy what's available, but keep his wallet closed.
