I'd start simple. You just need one of those house cats that insists on sleeping on top of your pillow, the kind that would wrap around your head and purr all night. I've got some cousins that have to do that to keep their servants functional. I don't do it, but I know it helps some. Negative.

If the recliner didn’t work how about a snorkagopolus machine? Lots of people use them.

I've gone thru a few periods of not being able to sleep very well......but normally would get a few hours of good sleep. Not sure how you do it MO.
Lately I have been taking two Excedrin PM before bed and these seem to be enough to get me to sleep. Also seems to help with soreness from arthritis and general aches and pains.
I got tinnitus, so I used to need the TV on to get to sleep. Anything to mask the constant ringing in my ears (sounds like a tea pot). Been two years or more since I stopped with the TV to get to sleep.
Worrying and solving a variety of problems used to keep me awake. In the past, I had to get up and make notes of what was troubling me (usually a list of things to do at work) in order to "put it away" and get some sleep.
Not sure what is different now, but I sleep a solid 8 hours every night these days. I suppose most of the old work issues are now long gone.....but I sometimes still wake up from filling out expense reports and writing sales reports from a job 35 years ago.

Closer I get to 100 I hope to get more sleep. But for the last 50 years it don’t happen. I got a big match today and needed some sleep to golf better. Going 103, 85, 98 has been my consistent golf the last 3 matches. Hoping some sleep will narrow that up a few strokes. Lol

When I have had trouble sleeping......I sometimes will RE-play every shot from my last round of golf (kinda like counting sheep). My wife didn't believe I could remember the round (we were on a road trip in the car).....so I gave her a play by play of her round of golf too....in detail. Odd that I can remember such trivia.
Sleep problems IMO are a matter of shutting down your mind......and dealing with old issues. I guess that is why many people need to see a shrink.
Many years back, I got to a point in life where I got very depressed. My biz was really on the ropes, my wife had some dire health issues.....and lots more. I was to the point I could not eat or could not sleep, and was having all kinds of issues. Went to see a shrink......and she asked me what was troubling me. So I told her the stuff above and more.......and she said to me "no wonder your depressed.....which one can you solve the easiest....and which do you have no control over?"
That seemed to be all it took.....was for me to recognize I could not control all of the things that pile up and to take it as it comes. "Just" learn to let go. (as I have said "you can't save 'em all")

(as I have said "you can't save 'em all") I can say I have either been depressed my whole life and I doubt that, or the drinking hides it good, or I have never been depressed at all. Because I have never let anything bother me to the point I couldn’t function or over come a problem, so I wouldn’t know the difference anyways. But who the fuck knows. I don’t golf to get better, I golf to hang out and have fun. Give some guys shit and take my lumps as deserved. But I would at least like to be in the 90’s at least. Lol

(as I have said "you can't save 'em all") This makes allot sense particularly when it comes to people issues. Sometimes people need to go there own way as what kept you together years ago has changed. I use to fret about certain people but age has taught me it is the natural way. This includes parents, children, in-laws and best friends. You can't keep good relations with everyone and the old saying nothing lasts forever is true.

Took two melatonin pills last night slept like bear in hibernation. I wake up at 3 or 4 am like clock work otherwise. I was doing two for awhile and also slept unbelievably hard. It seemed I was a bit groggy in the mornings though. I take one now, still sleep pretty good and don't have the grogginess.

Mrs Kooch sometimes has difficulty sleeping. I can't blame her. I'm extremely attractive and it must be tough to get her mind off me...
She takes melatonin now and then and says it helps.

FWIW......I started to write here about a time I could not sleep and became depressed.....some 35 years ago. Not easy to write this stuff. I was severely depressed for a time......wondered if I would ever come around.....but I did. Figrured I would lose it all....biz, family, life. Not pretty.
Not saying this to "spout off"......and depression is a not a good place to be. If anyone feels they are depressed and wants to know more.....I am happy to talk. I do understand the feelings. Shoot me a PM with a phone number and I will talk on the phone.
I got thru two bouts of bad depression. I believe most can. Not a good place to be. In my case I could not eat, sleep, work, meet other people, leave home, and I lost about 40lbs. in short I could barely function. I will definitely help anyone if I can.
Finding some balance in life is huge. Don't let yourself become all work or no work. Find a balance of family, work, play, personal time, etc.
