Aldi's apple pastries are a stable of Deer Hunting season for me.

I had a meeting with my planner last week. We took some profits and will invest those $ into low-risk bonds and some mid-caps. With the lofty mulitiiples now, were caucious.....and keeping some powder dry for an opportunity yet to come (?). Of course taking some profits means paying more taxes now. But long term gains aint so bad. When you get to my age.....it gets harder to take a big hit in the market.....and have time, or the attitude to recover. I watched that happen to several of my older buddies.....where they got creamed by the market and didnt feel they could withstand another big drop in the markets. They withdrew from the markets......and then (sadly) watched as the markets advanced again. In one guys case.....he was just forced to live a lesser lifestyle in latter years. That's the hard part with market investing. You buy it all or nothing at all. Even now, I think there are some deals to be fished outta the clearance bin. ***Please nobody go buy these without doing your own homework, because I may be wrong.*** happened twice, once in 2006, and again in 2010. Anyway: HBI, TNH, TSCO, CVX, DLTH, SFM, POT, and APD. I expect to see a rebound in these sometime in the near future. I'd be nervous about bonds with the end of ZIRP looking more and more likely. I wouldn't expect a blowout, but a slow leak.

Aldi's is great. The wife brings home quite a bit of produce from there, much cheaper than Walmart and usually better quality too.

Seems like large pumper gas stations, convenience stores, grocery stores, and dollar stores are all doing OK. But most of the bricks and mortar retailers are dying on the vine. Places like Kmart, Penny's, Target, Sears, many of the sporting goods stores, and so many more are hurting. On-line retailers are eating their lunch.

My kids eat the heck out of strawberries an blueberries. They run .99c a pack. Seem to always be fresh. Also cheap diapers too lol

The thing is sometimes you want something right now, and dont want to wait for delivery.
Amazon has same day delivery in the big cities, but I don't see it coming to my ho-dunk town anytime soon.

Anybody think the national debt will hold back the economy any? Rates are still historically low so in the next couple years I don’t think the debt will impact the economy. There is allot of currency/liquidity in the economy and if the economy was to expand too quickly and cause inflation the fed might increase rates to slow things down. This would increase our debt spending and could slow the economy. I still think the risk to high inflation is a few years away and that depends on a strong economy. If the economy starts to pick up and inflation is reasonable rates will rise predictably. Economic growth is key to earnings which is key to the markets.
Hopefully Trumps team is paying attention to debt as I don’t think the public will approve of allot of deficit spending.

If we can get ahead of the interest consuming the budget, we'll be fine. If not, it'll eat us.

^ Good solid observations above. But....the market climbs a wall of worry.......and is unpredictable as my sister. Be wary!

Just saw on the news Gordmans filed for bankruptcy today and is closing every store. No idea what Gordmans is, but add another to the list.

I didn't know what that was either. I recall seeing their name near malls too, but never went in. Looks like another old age department store. Throw them on the heap. Next?
