Seeds ordered.
Also got Jarrahdale Pumpkin which is supposed to be a blueish grey color.

I'm in! Those beet things are awesome (and so are the pics).
I've grown pumpkins that looked like those. Not sure if that's what they were named but they were flat and blueish gray. Kind of neat looking.

Make sure you wear your bib overalls and bowtie when you plant and harvest.

Tried red mammoth mangels once here and once on my old place. Neither time was worth the cost of the seed. Good luck with them

I wonder if you could plant rutabagas with them. Other seed idea's?

I wonder if you could plant rutabagas with them. Other seed idea's? Non-RUP sugar beets. That's pretty much what a mangel is anyway (they're not the same, just similar)

Tried red mammoth mangels once here and once on my old place. Neither time was worth the cost of the seed. Good luck with them Your old place was sandy right? What about the new place? These are going in more heavy clay type soil. My biggest worry is grass. Going to till. Spray roundup after grasses emerge, plant and then probably have to spray clethodim.

My folks' old place was sandy, mine was beautiful silt loam. Soil here where I tried them is a clay/gravel/sand/glacial till mix. Mangels take off and grow very sloooowwwlllllyyyy for quite awhile. Keep them weed free from planting until fall and feed them a bunch of N, they'll probably do well. I didn't keep up with weed control.

Planted the mangels yesterday. After planting pumpkins with the kids I was ready to be done so these were just flung out with the handheld spreader into a tilled ground.
The package said to plant a few weeks before last frost so timing should be about right. Usually don't plant pumpkins until memorial day weekend, but went early this year. Wanted to catch any rain we may get in next 2 weeks.

Weeds are going to be an issue. I couldn't find a wire I made to hook up sprayer to tractor..finally found it a spot I thought I looked at weeks ago.
Sprayed the grass yesterday evening..rained all Day today. See how well that works..gave it a good strong douse of cleth.
The pumpkins I planted with them look good.
