I'm used to just 3 oz per gallon of water of Gly. So for every 25 gallon tank of Round up I put in 75 oz of 41% gly and drive as slow as I can and it kills shit. Simple Simple.
Now I want to put a pre emerge down for corn. Planning on SureStart II
Reading the label. Here is what I find:
"Apply in a minimum broadcast spray volume of 10 gallons per acre using
boom equipment for ground applications."
Looks like I need to apply 2-3 pints per acre of product.
I am going to take a stab at this and have no idea if I'm right or wrong.
Say if I assume 15 gallons of water per acre and I need to do 3 pints of product per acre.
For a 25 gallon tank that gets me 1.6 acres of spraying area and 3 pints (48 fluid oz) of product.
So if I am spraying 3.5 acres that is is 2.18 tanks or 52.5 gallons of water with 10.5 pints (168 fluid oz)
I know there is calibrating sprayer things I need to figure out here. But that is my start on how much I need to put on.
How bad did I do?

I’d call your local agronomist. You’re not going to be able to calculate any of this unless you figure out how much spray comes out of your tank per minute per square foot which will also depend on your width of boom and machine speed.

I'm just thinking out loud here and I could be totally wrong The way I see it. You have to apply so much product per acre with enough carrier product (water). Once you know how much product to apply per acre then you figure out the sprayer next based on that (speed, number of nozzles, width and flow). If I call a agronomist will he want to talk to a plotter? And if he does will he ask me a bunch of questions I won't know the answer to? LOL "Youre using a little fimco sprayer?" |

KL9 got me thinking about it. I looked into my sprayer manual and found this. So looks like I want to drive between 3-4 mph.  |

Lots of "real" farmers use FIMCO sprayers too. They use em on a wheeler all the time.
The FIMCO book has a great method to determine the spray rates. As a general rule......I use a ground speed of 4 MPH for spraying and for planting, disking and various other tasks. Then if you know your width of spray......you can easily determine the rate of your application.
I think if you go through all that mental gymnastics you will find that at 4MPH and a "boomless" (3 nozzle fimco affair) you will put down 1/2 of a 25 gallon tank per acre. I get a rate of 2 acres per tank out of my FIMCO unit. Norally use 2 qts / acre to nuke stuff......and `1 Qt / acre to control weeds in RR crops.
As you say....you can overcomplicate this stuff.

I don't care what spray rig you run as a food plotter. Just take your sprayer fill it with water no chemical and go spray your 3 acre plot at a comfortable speed and see how much water comes out of the tank. If its 30 gal on 3 acres, you just sprayed 10 gal per acre. See how easy that was? LOL!

Can you spray the same thing twice or do they go other post emerge then ? Surestart II can be sprayed on corn up to 11” tall. But kills no weeds after they are up. |
