. The deer have been hitting the corn hard. There were about 30 in the field a few nights back. with two acres of good corn and 1.5 acres of droughted out corn, it won’t last very long. They do spend a bit of time in the alfalfa field.

That’s a load of corn. How many bushel would you estimate was out there?

That’s a load of corn. How many bushel would you estimate was out there? Maybe 225 total . It is hard to say. Tracks today seem to indicate the deer are becoming more ‘locked in’ on the corn and adjacent cedars versus crossing in and out from other areas. Some years, more deer move in. The 40 acres of cedars to the north of the corn makes a big difference with this cold and wind.

Two years ago....I had 3 acres of corn....and it was difficult to find but a few kernels after the winter. I do think birds get a fair share of it....as well as coons, bears, turkeys, grouse, squirrels, and other critters. Maybe the deer get 1/2?

The squirrels have carried ears off and there were five of the feathered rats in the driveway this afternoon. Luckily, the other 45 are still 1/4 mile north. Blue jays and pheasants eat the corn also. Hey, foggy, those are deer tracks and not blue jays!

225 x 56 pounds? 12,600 pounds of corn? Am I right? That’s a pile of corn. Imagine it just all in a heap. The idea that it gets eaten completely always amazes me.

Deer digging sugar beets on one small section of 4 acre field. I would guess only 12-15 tons per acre this year because of drought. (usually 20-25 T per acre) Most on cam at one time was 15. Pics taken 1 day after heavy snowfall.

25T per acre!!!
Aside from the liquid gold glyphosate, what are your inputs to get that yield? I don’t think I’d have enough deer at my SD place to even consume 1/2 an acre.

. I tried a few when we had lower deer numbers and the beets had very little browsing. They have started to eat squash and pumpkins here.
