I just noticed kooch posted the cost of buckwheat seed. I just saw a local add for rye at $6. I can’t remember if that was per bushel or 50 pounds.
For deer feed, or for enriching the soil, is buckwheat a significant advantage over spring planted rye?
I won’t be doing either, but just wondering.
As a cheap skate and over 30 years ago, I seeded a part of our lawn hillside with oats and rye in the spring. I fertilized it and never mowed so much grass. Maybe this would be a cheap foodplot to last a year, if kept mowed/ grazed.

Don’t mention the cost of the seed, or anything, tomorrow please. There may be some discrepancies on the ledger that I’d rather not explain.

Anyway Art, I planted oats for two years in a row. Way cheaper and works fine. I just thought old splurge this year and do what the habitat gurus on the Internet tell me I oughta do for once. Buckwheat it is. And for those of you that don’t recognize all the stupid gif things we posted, go watch the movie “Office Space”

I have really amped up my rye seeding both fall and spring. This fall I will be ordering a full pallet. 10 bushels for fall 21' planting. 10 for spring 22' planting. Mixed with annual and perennial clovers and hopefully the collards working out, can't think of a more bullet proof pig/deer combo. Year around
