Since overpaying for existing homes seems to be the norm now, I wonder how much cost difference there is between building new and buying somebody else's house?

In our hood in Zona it was $100k cheaper to build new for us. Edit: but we had time to wait 8 months to get it built. Many don’t have the time.

Well looks like I'm not getting this one. House went for 35k over asking. So are guys bummed about not getting it? Would you have paid $35k over based on what you know now?

In our hood in Zona it was $100k cheaper to build new for us. Edit: but we had time to wait 8 months to get it built. Many don’t have the time. Was talking with the sales lady at Robson here in OZ. She is pretty sharp. They currently have 3 lots available to new buyers and it takes 15 to 18 months to get into a new home - if they will sell you a lot / home. Guy I just talked with seemed to know allot.....and he told me the new lots now becoming ready for sale are going on a lottery basis. Yowsir.....Glad we got built when we did. This development I am in has had a 35 year build program. In two years it will be sold out. Another year to finish the building. Our neighborhood of 130 homes will be completed by fall. Our base home price is now 20% more than when we bought (two years ago).....and many of the upgrades are more expensive than that. The golf course lots are nearly double as there are no more "good ones". Definitely the hottest real estate market I have seen in my lifetime.

I think allot of this housing market is driven by boomers going into retirement living. For example just here: Me, Jerry, Mo, Mike.....all of that same situation.

This 48’x88’x14’ pole shed with 3 overhead doors, 3 entry doors, 6 windows, pole barn lumber and steel, all the framing materials for the house part, insulation, Sheetrock, all millwork with interior doors and hardware was $98k. Not as bad as I thought. But it’s only the first bid. We will see where others come in.

Daughter said people are writing crazy stupid letters pleading for the sellers to pick them. Sending pictures of their families, pets the church they attended, all sorts of stuff is going on. Me as a seller, are you pre qualified to buy from your lender, or do you have cash? Can you close in 30 days? I could care less who is buying or what kid of dog someone has. Lol Edit: if I sent my ugly mug to someone trying to buy a house, it would be the first one in the garbage can. Lol Nobody should whore out their pets. Ridiculous.

One thing not said here....is how hard it is to find a small acreage these days. In some of the ag country you need to have 20 to 40 acres to put a house on it. And in the best ag areas...that land may be worth 10,000 / acre. Adds up fast.
