Something else I'd like to try on my inside corner was to try and nuke and throw down some seed and pray. I can't get to this location with any equipment at the moment. What would work best based on the pictures? rape, radish and winter rye? Clover might tough to get started? Do I have a chance if I keep it nuked all summer ? Where is that? South of the drive toward bird man? Also....lazy ass....get a rake. Or another vote for Burn.
Yep that is where it is. The inside corner.
I am lazy.
Control burn would be good but I don't want to torch my apple trees there.

If it would be me, I would nuke it early, as soon as you see green popping thru the mat. Spread some lime at this time. I would spray at least 2 more times after the initial spraying. This will keep any thing from growing and allow the mat to start decaying. Then towards the end of July broadcast a brassica mix. I would also trim out all the small brush and trees like this coming weekend.

That was my thinking as well TT before I started this thread.
Interesting the diversity of ideas on this.

Didn't know that. I hand raked about 150 yards of 8-12' wide trail my first year here. It was really fun That section has some really nice clover now though

This area will eventually be a food plot if I can ever get logged.

Ya, with the change in weather patterns those perennially wet/damp areas are going to be a crapshoot when it comes to ability to be logged I suppose.

Probably would of been able to get it done in December when it got cold for awhile. But the market too a shit and it would of been tough for him to even break even. Plus I would of lost money. With the divorce I pending and around $25,000 at stake I wasn't going to push it.

Probably would work with some work hey? I'm just not that motivated to get a plot here right now. If it is possible with a sprayer and hand seeder great. If not, so be it.

If you don't love doing the crazy habitat stuff, then I'd just throw some winter rye and white clover down next August and see what happens. You won't be out much if it doesn't work

That is me Stu. I like it but not in crazy amounts. I do it just to improve my hunting. Not for the habitat. I don't want to be out much work if it doesn't work.
Would you let it grow or keep it sprayed all summer?

I'd let it grow if you intend to then mow/scythe/weed whack the sprayed/soon to be dead stuff on top of your seed. If you're only going to use sprayer and seed spreader, I'd keep it dead all summer.

I was going to mention that at around $20 for a bag of rye, I would just throw it out there come end of July and let'r ride. You're out an hour and $20 if it fails.
