Been reading allot of stuff on grain drills. Seems the recent models by land pride and woods are basically seeders that pose as a grain drill. Kinda sneaky stuff they do to make these units look like a no till drill.....but they are deceiving folks a bit.....IMO. Seems they just scatter the seeds between the disk and packing wheels and call it a drill. Dunno.....but that is not what I expect out of a drill.
I doubt I could pull more than a 5 foot no till drill......and I gotta do more research. Maybe a good old double disk drill in a 6 to 8 footer will work for my needs. If anyone knows of a good 'un out there....please let me know.

^ Pretty much what I am learning too. I got a 35 HP tractor.....and Genesis says 40 HP with the ability to lift 2800 lbs at the 3 point. I may have that lift capacity.....and in my sand I think I got enough HP to pull it......but my tractor is about on the bubble.

Are you wanting to no-till? Are you OK with old equipment that if broke you can’t find parts? If you are buy it if not I would look for a newer unit.

I've seen a few of those grove machines sell for a few hundred dollars. Are the boxes rusted away? I have no interest but lots of folks are looking for old cheap machinery that works.

Been Reading all I can about a new TAR RIVER SANYA507 NoTill Drill. They seem like pretty good equipment for under $6000. Weighs 1400# and you can add weights to it to get somewhat better penetration.....tho my sandy soils are fairly easy to penetrate. I'd have "just enough" tractor HP and ample size / lift to handle this 6 foot wide drill.
This may be the right drill for me - given my soils. Seems like most folks are happy with it.....but it's only been on the market for a bit over a year. Got a call on one in Rockford ILL. Wonder what shipping would cost?
I like the no till concept and getting rid of all the chemicals and tillage over time. Hmmmm.....the plot thickens.
Good discussion on this unit on Habitat talk. .https://habitat-talk.com/index.php?threads/tar-river-saya-507-not-till-drill.12176/
EDIT: I even bought a few bags of barley yesterday. Grin.
