I am 99 percent sure this is a color phase bear. If it is a color phase it is rare for Wisconsin.Got the picture last night at 8:59. At 8:57 had a big doe in front of camera. I took the suggestions and cropped out the Tactacam info off the pic.

How tall is that thing? My reference for bear is none, but it looks like a big critter to me.

How'd you like to come around a trail corner in the dark with a green headlamp and be face to face with that?

How'd you like to come around a trail corner in the dark with a green headlamp and be face to face with that? I have, and the bear was wounded. Also have walked into bear baits with bear laying at bait.

How'd you like to come around a trail corner in the dark with a green headlamp and be face to face with that? I have a few times. It’s not a fun moment but, they’ve always eventually moved on. The worst is when there’s cubs with mom and you only have a black powder. My buddy had a cub climb the tree next to the treestand last year during black powder. Then mom showed up. He had the crosshairs on her until they left.

Tom, are you getting more bear photos than usual on your land?

How'd you like to come around a trail corner in the dark with a green headlamp and be face to face with that? Nope, not interested. Most of the time I see pics of black bears I think they look kind of small but not this one. The closest thing I can relate to is dogs while I'm running. Been stared down by a couple of rots and pits that didn't back down when I bluff charged (yell and step at them). Had a guy pull his truck between a dog and me once. We had been standing off for quite a while. A step towards him brought his hackles up, a step backward induced a charge. I was awfully glad dude saw what was going on and squeezed between us. That isn't going to happen in the woods with a bear. Glad I'm not in that country.

I've gotten tons of bear pics on my land over the years, but never a color phase and never one with the white V on the chest. Your picture sure seems pretty light, so I agree that looks like a chocolate phase.

Tom, are you getting more bear photos than usual on your land? Seems that way. A guy that hunted the shit of bear in the neighbor hood died a few years back, so that might be why.

We have at least 3 cubs along with their moms in the neighborhood this year. The abutter had a large one on his deck Tuesday night.

I see bears several times a season at my place. I see them in daylight on the far back portion of my long plot. It's pretty open. I cruise around the corner and there one or more are out a hundred yards away. When the wind is blowing towards them, they've always hustled right out. Who knows how many smell you early and split. When the wind is blowing towards me, it gets more interesting. Usually I yell something at them and they stop whatever they are doing and look. Then, the casually walk away.
Plenty of bear shit out there this year again, but I didn't see any in person. I have one on camera.

At my place the young/smaller bears are scared of everything, but the big old bear that runs the area is not. I have a really big bear at my place now that walked downwind of me while deer hunting and he stared at me in my treestand but he wasn't scared.
Before I built my cabin we would drink beer around the campfire and sleep in our trucks. We could hear the bear snapping his jaws at us while he was in the nearby willow thickett. I think he wanted the Busch light.
