when I grew up, you did not talk when the weather came on TV. My aunt would say to her husband, “Dick, shut up, the weather is on!” My Dad was the same way. it is hard for young people to understand, but there was no internet and no instant weather in your via a smart phone. So many things were done outside. At various times my Dad farmed, logged, picked wild rice, trapped, was a carpenter in a 1 or 2 man business, fed livestock, cut firewood. All was done without bobcats, without cabs on a tractor, All work by hand with very few power tools. Who remembers, no talking during the weather?

My kids will remember this. When I had my snow plowing biz I was always quiet, the weather is on. I would then curse out the weather person and we would wait until it came on again and do it all over.

Yep, still don't talk when the weather forecast is on either.
I run an outdoor service business, and some people will ask when I will get to them. I tell them, "if you can forecast the weather for a two week stretch, including the wind direction, then I can tell you when I can get to you. Otherwise, we just need to watch the weather forecast each night and I will do the best I can." The younger people don't always accept the answer. The older people usually get it.
