I really want to get one done before the season. Will probably just be a small tub type but it’s better than nothing.

I dug mine with my bucket on my little tractor as well. I need to dig mine out again as it is silting in a bit. It's funny how many different critters are drawn to the water. I have plenty of water on/near my place naturally with large creeks and the like, but the deer still stop and visit once in a while. If you sink a poly tub or the like make sure you have lots of ways for small critters like mice to get out. I tried a couple of small poly totes once with a large branch in it...the stupid mice simply swam around the edge and eventually drown vs swim to the middle and get on the branch to climb out. A piece of hardware cloth up against the side wall will keep that from happening.
