I just got done with a pre-light run and the turkeys are gobbling on roost like crazy! All along the creek bottom they were sounding off, sounds so cool echoing down the creek bottom in the crisp morning air. Lots of geese honking this morning too.
Any of you guys turkey hunt, or even have turkeys where you are at?

Love to turkey hunt. Nothing better to be out in spring listening to mother nature wake up in the morning.

As much as I hate to say it, I actually might enjoy it more than deer hunting. Wisconsin over-the-counter spring tags go on sale Monday! I already have one for the first week/season, I would like to get one for week 3 and/or 4 as well.
I burn up way more vacation days chasing turkeys than I do deer ever since I gave up bow hunting.

I love turkey hunting too. I shot two birds in two years with my shotgun and deemed that too easy. Ever since I have tried with my bow and have gone six years without one since. Have had a chance with at least one every year and blown the opportunities. Maybe this will be my year!

I love spring turkey hunting. At times it can be a team event unlike bow hunting. It happens at time of year when there is nothing else to hunt and it's a great thing to get kids started.
My daughter has had some early success with birds right in our face gobbling.
My dad bought his place in 2004 and it is thick with turkeys. I killed one on a decoy with my bow and no blind the first time I hunted there. I went 10 years before I killed one again and that was with a shotgun. But I did call them in for many first time hunters over those 10 years.

I bought a West Virginia license last year to hunt some old family property. We didn't score there but dad had another place lined up. He called this one in for me. I think it is the first bird we have killed together in about 20 years. We've been too busy taking kids to hunt much with just the two of us.

There isnt a better time of the year in the outdoors. I love how the landscape comes alive at daybreak with all the birds. Sandhill cranes, geese, the millions of "tweety" birds of every kind, and then the gobbling to put the cherry on top. I would like to try the archery hunting, but I just have way too much to do in springtime up north and dont have the time to dedicate my spring to trying to get a bird with stick and string. I have access to very productive land and I certainly am very grateful to the various landowners. My son tried archery last spring for the first time, and he shot a bird on his first morning out ever. Maybe I should have him take me out archery hunting.

Just ordered a tag in mn for this spring since reading this thread. I've got turkeys on both my properties to hunt and have other places to go if I don't find them there.

Dad said a gobbler attacked his reflection in his truck bumper this morning. The truck was sitting in his driveway.
Since he has lived on his property, we have learned that most of the Ohio breeding takes place ahead of our late April opener. He usually sees some turkey sex in his yard every year. I have seen hatched babies the last day of season which is around May15.

Wow, lots of you guys like to kill the thunder chicken! Great pics!
I'm a lot like the rest of you guys and had a lot of trouble killing my first one. After that I shot some with a bow and now I just chase them with the kids and a shotgun. Lots of fun!
We will need to start a Turkey harvest thread once people start putting them down.

Sometime in the next few weeks I'll buy a tag for my daughter and maybe me. We will hunt all season in any part of the state we choose.
Ohio does have its perks. I may do the same in WV too.

My turkey experience sounds very similar to many of yours. I killed a couple with a shotgun then a few with my bow, now it's all about my kids, called for my dad for years in between. My 8 year old shot one in the face at 15 yards last spring, while sitting on my lap.

Surprisingly for me I never got hooked. I've shot one with the shotgun and I'll occasionally chase with the bow but not seriously. I should however get more into it to have an excuse to bring the kids out hunting...
