Yep bear can tear a camera off tree. Even with a bear box the bear guide I help lost 2 trailcams from bear tearing off tree. Glad it wasn't any that I put out. Make sure your straps are in good shape and only use metal buckles not the plastic ones. Have the camera fastened tight to tree and don't let the excess strap hang. Rap the excess strap around tree and tuck behind tree.

I have a large tub(s) of water that I place near my salt licks. The tub is one of those sleds used for ice fishing. I suppose it was holding 30 to 40 gallons of water......and I had a bear drag that sled about 30 yards into my food plot.y (if I am right on my volume guess....that would be about 300 lbs of weight to drag around.) Also had one that tried to climb up my Redneck blind and bent some of the metal supports and bent my ladder some.

Would a bear actually rip down a trail camera? I found ripped straps on the ground, but no camera? In front of my mineral site. This is in a remote location, saw no sign of human activity, but camera is gone, straps on the ground...either an animal or a trespasser (who is really dumb) and doesn't realize you can un-clip the straps? Were straps clean cut or torn apart? Torn, not real rough, but not a clean cut. I probably did have scent on my hands when I put the camera up.

Drag it off to ? Stumped, isn't this early for bear? Yes, they'll rip them down and run off with them. I had one disappear a few years ago. A young yearling cub took it and ran off with it. I found it about 200 yards away on a game trail. It took me a month to find it. The culprit was on camera. He took straps and all though. How were your straps laid out? The clips would be broken if he pulled them out and ran off with the camera. I usually tie them on now and tie them on but, the camera will drop and they leave it. If the straps are cut smooth then it was stolen. Here's Scruffy right before he took my camera.

I wear nitrile gloves and always wear rubber boots, sprayed with scent eliminator.

Here are the straps, I do not know, 50/50 on what could have happened. Hope it is a bear to be honest, rather than a trespasser. free picture hosting for ebay

Trespasser with dull knife. And a dull brain, since he could have just unclipped the strap
