It is way to straight for a bear to have tore it. When it is from a bear it is jagged with a lot of strings pulled out as they use their teeth of claws to pull and rip it.

Tom--makes sense. We put another hidden camera up high in the tree--angled down, maybe we can catch the dumb shit!

Idk, I've had Moultrie cam straps that have sat outside for 1-2 years and the strap becomes so brittle I can literally tear it apart by hand. Is yours like that by chance?

I've had some straps like that which will go to shit after about two years. Those are on a ladder stand. Now I keep a new set handy for when those need to be replaced. But, some straps I've gotten have held up for years out in the elements.

The strap was not new by any means. I know that nobody came from the south as it is swamp and tamarack, impossible, without major effort. To come from the north, I had other cameras in area, no sign of anyone, and no tracks or ATV, nothing. This would be 3/4 mile off the road. My only thoughts is some shed hunter walked a bunch of ground and stumbled on the camera, did not want his pic taken? But cut the straps, how dumb is he?

Well when I 1st bought my land I found a deer carcass in my swamp in winter. Hung a camera on carcass, got some great pics all winter into spring. In spring it got real wet where camera was hung, needed hip boots to check it. Went to check it once the snow was gone. The trailcam was gone. They cut the tree down with a chainsaw, it was a 10 inch diameter tree, all they had to do was cut the cable. I suspect it was a neighbor that was looking for sheds. I reported it to the Sheriffs office and they agreed. A detective went and questioned all the neighbors, never got the trailcam back but I haven't had much problem with trespassing since.

Trespassing is a problem that--in most cases--can be fixed. New fences, access gates, lots of cameras, phone calls to game wardens. At this point none of that will happen, second time, then we will have to remedy the situation.
