Thought I would create a thread for the apples that I purchase from the MN Landscape Arboretum this fall.
Available today were Zestar! and LaCrescent apples. I picked out a bag of smaller LaCrescent apples on the right in the picture. The first Zestar was excellent! Way better than the sour crabapples I had been trying to nibble on.
That's $18 for the two small bags of 2nd grade apples. 1st class apples weren't available today, and they are about double the price. Third class, or utility grade were available in larger bags.
The apple card pictured shows that First Kiss apples should be available, none were.

20 Zestar! apples, so 2/$1. 24 LaCrescent appples, 3/$1. You all are growing gold, or at least nickels and quarters. The LaCrescent are juicy and good, not very crispy and not overly flavorful.

Available today were Honeycrisp and Sweettango aka MN1914. I purchased some Sweetango 2nds. $12 for 18 apples or 66 cents a piece. 1st quality apples were $18.
The Sweettango are very crispy with a bit of a twist to the taste.

Tree ripened Sweet Sixteen is a heck of a good apple. I should graft another tree or two. I've never had Sweetango from an orchard or fresh off a tree. Those I've picked up from the grocery store weren't all that impressive

Haven't gotten one since due to coons/frost/biennial. I wish I had planted 5 of them.

I'm thinking the 2 trees that were at my house when we bought it are Sweet 16. Very sweet and tasty apple!

I just ordered 3 Sweet 16 from burnt ridge for next year. Same place my one tree came from. One of my best growers. Trying M111 this time.

Picked up some MN1839 today. $12.50 for 20 first quality apples. They are firm, some sweetness, juicy. Very good, not great.
Lots of apple varieties available today, MN1839, MN1802, Sweetango, McIntosh, Sweet Sixteen, Honeycrisp, Cortland, Haralson, Honeygold, Regent, and a few Frostbite. The Honeygold looked like some nice apples.

Two 1/2 peck bags of Keepsake seconds for $8 a bag are likely my last purchase for the year from the arb. I don't think they are all that great of an apple, but am hoping that they will keep through deer season for a snack. Also available were Honeycrisp, Honeygold, Haralson, and even a few First Kiss.

That's interesting. My wife and I both love Keepsake.
