I swear they didn't move a muscle from 11:30 until 4:00. Then they just walked away.

Saw 6 slick heads. Pretty slow.

My twice drive around our section right before dark was pretty slow. I saw one fawn on my property that was eating some corn where they had started to chop. 5-6 small deer on some test rows on a chopped field and none on my alfalfa.
A doe and two fawns came out of the willows and ate meadow hay that had greened up instead of the alfalfa. I suspect there is lots of wild nutrition in the low areas that greened up after the drought.
I am even seeing some spring flowers blooming along my driveway.

Have you tried a decoy yet? Decoys and water is about the only way your going to get close to a goat with their eyes. I have a decoy but have never used it as I purchased it but my bow hunt plans fell through. I have shot quite a few goats. Years ago they were cheap to hunt and in Wyoming you could get a buck tag and 2 doe tags. Fun shooting with a 7mm. Good Luck!

Haven't tried hunting over water yet. When I first decided to hunt them I thought water felt a little like cheating... I may not feel that way anymore. Darn cool that you've shot several! I could use some of your skills loaned to me. I almost always hunt with a bow and don't seem to have much desire to hunt things with a rifle, but I'm to the point I wouldn't mind shooting one with a rifle. The problem with that is that it's very unlikely to get drawn for a rifle tag in KS. I was told that the county I'm hunting only allowed 1 rifle tag last year. I read that KS usually sells around 110 archery tags and has a average success rate of 10-11%. I may personally lower that stat!

We drove the road between I-94 and I-90 on the western side of the dakotas from Dickinson, ND to Spearfish, SD. There were lots and lots of goats out there.

I have a friend who was hunting in Wyoming with a self bow and hand chipped stone points. He missed one and then turned to the rifle.

K-Meow took a nice antelope. Is our whole board still open for first deer/goat/bear of the season?
