What is your favorite part of habitat work or hunting?
Number one for me is setting up hunting stands/ locations in the woods. I like to study the wind flow and deer movement in the woods. Stands in foodplots is not near as interesting.
Number two would be chain saw work. Either creating habitat/browse or creating a funnel.

I like crawling around on my hands and knees hoping to see sprouts growing. I like it when something grows really well and it's time to mow. The mowing is satisfying.

Removing buckthorn, or any invasive that has taken over an area.
Enjoy butchering the first deer.
Starting to enjoy the camping almost as much as the hunting.

I like watching wildlife eat the stuff I planted and use the habitat improvements i worked on. I equally enjoy harvesting some of the critters that benefit from my work.

Completely different activities for me. I enjoy them both greatly but in different ways. Your question is almost like asking if I like fishing or hunting.

Watching my food plotting efforts be successful and provide food for the deer.
Successfully utilizing my hunting tactics to see deer.
Harvesting a target buck
Hanging a deer in my deer tree
Brisk cool air across my face
Walking out from my stand in the evening watching the stars, appreciating my own property and being thankful for the opportunity to do what I am doing

Watching one of the kids kill a deer and then tell the story 8 times that night when we stand around it hanging from the winch.

Foodplots, chain saw, or anything specific?

Foodplots, chain saw, or anything specific? Nothing specific. Food plots, making and maintaining trails, chainsaw work, planting and maintaining fruit trees, attempting to manipulate travel patterns...just being in the woods.

I like the preparation of the property for the hunting season. The hunting is just the icing on the cake. It’s all enjoyable!

I toured my place last week with my cousin who used to hunt it. He was impressed and I must admit that gave me joy. Plots opened up strategies that he never considered. Chainsaw work motivated him to do the same on his place. Grafting was all new to him. I prefer the hunt over the work but that tour was good for us both.
I love sitting in a stand with my daughter more than anything. Those days get fewer each season. I love a morning hunt as the woods wake up and you never know what might cruise by.
Habitat wise grafting has become a new and strongest passion. Most of my success is with persimmon but I am determined to create more apples. I check my grafts every visit to how they are.
Most of all, I love being away from the city whether it’s hunting or habitat season.

Several years in a small town after the city.
