Not true... I live in a utopia! Bullshit. I've seen the pics of spiders and snakes you have. Pretty sure tornadoes are an issue in KS too. Lol, don't forget the scorpions. Little cat got stung on the lip by a scorpion once. Crawled onto his face while in bed and stung his mouth! He's also had one jump off the shower certain onto him. Little guy screams like a girl sometimes. lol. Snakes don't give you the creeps do they?

I’m seeing some houses sitting on market, lots of price reduced ! Lots of for sale signs down here. I don't know about price reductions though, I haven't followed any listings. There's a nice little place across the street from us for sale. Less than 150' walk to the beach. 1200' sq. ft., no car port. Just under $800K and I think the sale is pending. We'll never own here.

I noticed prices are still high. There’s a lot of new construction that is sitting .

We've been looking for a place to rent here for February 2024. Very, very few available for what we're looking for. Those that we do find are out of control pricewise...like $20K+ a month. The flight to FL for re-location and vacations appears to be unaffected by the last hurricane.

They're building a huge development between some of the golf courses up there. Boca Royale, Sarasota National. I think 30,000 houses. Might take 20 years but it's only going to get worse (more crowded). People will trade the great weather for an off-chance at a hurricane. Where are you looking for $20k/month? I'm guessing on or very near the beach. I think my parents pay around $8,000 but they are inland.

To rent a place with direct access/frontage on the beach you're looking at a minimum of $15K a month. Off season you could probably do it for a little over half that amount. We could have rented this place for around $8K a month this year, but are only doing 2 weeks. Next year this place is already booked through March and the price went up around $2K a month. We could find a nice home with a pool on a canal inland a few miles for $5-7K a month I'd imagine. My wife wants to be at the beach all the time. I don't want to drive through the beach traffic daily, and sit at the public beach with the "unwashed masses". We walked about 2 miles of beach this morning one way. The only area with any amount of people was the public beach.

You mentioned public versus private beaches. Does your rental home have some type of easement to allow you beach access in a private area or how does that work? Is any beach open to visitors up to a high water mark or how does that work?

Is any beach open to visitors up to a high water mark or how does that work? We can walk down the street to the end of the block and walk on the beach. I suppose it is considered public, but is really only used by the people staying on either side of the street. There's nowhere to park anywhere nearby, so the "public" isn't very likely to use the access. It's my understanding that most beaches in FL are public, but the access is a bit questionable. From what I can tell, beachfront owners control to the high water mark, but you will occasionally find a sign well down the beach saying that the public can only walk on "wet sand" Those signs tend to be in front of $20+ million homes. We just keep on walking Red dot about where we are staying

I don't doubt that someone with a 20 million dollar house would prefer to keep the public off the beach in front of their house.
Do you see anyone fishing along any of the beaches?

Yep, plenty of people fishing. Many use sand flea rakes to catch bait. Some bring minnow buckets with bought bait..but I don't know what's in the bucket.

Didn't see anyone catch anything when we were there this year end of December. We did last year about this time.

They kind of look like small, hard shelled shrimp. Last year we watched an old dude catch lots of fish (no idea what the hell they were, but he ate them) on sand fleas. He was set up fishing before we hit the beach in the a.m. and would still be there until 4 or 5 in the afternoon. He didn't skimp on the adult beverages throughout the day.

Order some Maine lobsters and shrimp once a week and you’d be ahead of the game. My brother’s MIL survived the 150 mph winds of Ian and wants out. She’s seen enough of the Florida weather so she’s heading north. I know that last storm scared the shit out of her.
