I don't imagine golf would ever become my go-to passion... but I could see ocean fishing big fish replacing bow hunting someday (if I had money and wanted to move somewhere else which is very doubtful).

We caught some fish and I saw a lot of fish swimming and jumping just from shore. Good area for fishing! We only fished from shore. Nice piers to fish from and they were biting alright . Fun to see the different species.

No we didn’t . Long story but we threw them back . Either too small or protected . Snook for example, you can’t keep right now ?

We did see a few homes sitting on the market for awhile . One home was a 3 bedroom house with a pool… (on a canal) and I think the asking price was $579,000
It was price reduced and had been on the market since November. Maybe a sign of the market cooling a bit.

Possibly. It was not a new home . Built in the 90s.

Just booked our flights from St. Cloud to Punta Gorda for February. I'd have to look it up, but I think we paid more last year. Rental car options seemed more limited this time, but similar in cost to last year.
Maybe in 2024 the wife will be retired and we'll drive our own vehicle down.

I might be crossing Florida off the list ! I honestly would not want that headache! Extremely sad situation there. Renting might be sounding more attractive, or Arizona if the prices ever change ?

After this week the values in Arizona just went up. From what I understand the current stock market downturn wasn't driven by a housing crash like 2008. Home owners are not abandoning homes so we will probably see a small reduction in home values based on it being a buyers market but you won't see a large decline in home values. My guess is we will see a bottom in the stock market over the next 6 months and then 3 months later the fed should be in a position to ease rates. If your interested in an Arizona home you might be able to have some choices and buy at a reasonable value now but no real deals. If you wait, it will probably just cost more. Buy now, rent to retired folks until you are ready to use the home more.

We won't buy in Florida, but we had made that decision before Ian hit. We also won't buy in AZ or anywhere else. I'll let somebody else deal with taking care of stuff half the year or more. I'd anticipate AZ real estate prices only going higher for the foreseeable future. Plenty of retired east coasters will start looking over there now too. The exodus from California to AZ will also continue to accelerate. If you're going to buy, I don't see prices coming down in AZ anytime soon.

It also seemed more economically sound to me to do like a 2-3 month rental to head south, even changing it up over time rather than owning that way as Stu alluded to you don't have the headache of ownership/maintenance.
Now if you're a retirement millionaire than stories change I'm sure.

^ The one thing nice about properties in Arizona is there is little upkeep. With the mostly dry climate, no freezing and desert landscape homes/ concrete/ patio's etc. show almost zero wear. You need a house sitter to visit every week ($65 per month) and an exterminator every two-three months ($110) but you really only need these 6 months out of the year.
Houses get dusty mostly on the outside and maybe your plants need trimming but not allot goes wrong with the houses in Arizona.

But we built, got a great neighbor that charges us nothing to flush our toilets and keep an eye on things. Not much upkeep unless a storm comes through. We lost some cactus arms and one plant. I would say it’s better then owning a cabin in Mn.

Maybe at some point I will be, but not right now. Until the market gets back to where it was a year ago or so, I'm not going to be spending any time thinking about buying out of state real estate.
