Anyone know which poplar is the one that shoots up about 7' in it's first year after being cut, and it's got the giant leaves?

Was it part of a hybrid poplar plantation?

SD. If you want HP cuttings, I can get you some. I don’t know which variety they are.

Was it part of a hybrid poplar plantation? No, all wild far as I can tell. No rows, no real density to the stand. Looks random like the lord himself reached out and designed it. I've got the smaller regen that's like 3' tall and has the 50 cent piece sized leaves, but I've also got these really aggressive ones that are pushing 7' or even 8' tall and have huge leaves. I wonder if I have any wayward pics of them...

Second possibility would be big tooth aspen, but given your soil I'd guess quaking. The bigger ones are just likely the more vigorous shoots. Aspens will send up hundreds/thousands of suckers when cut in the winter. Some of those inevitably are better growers than others. Those will become the next generation of trees, while the others will get shaded out.

These grew so damn fast the stems were as thick as my thumb and pure green.

The days are already getting short with this extended warm spell and stagnant air. It sounds like next weekend is pork harvest. My guy is headed north to seem some JPS about magic finishing apples for pigs.
