Pretty obvious it would be during the rut. That’s when most people hunt. Myself included. Ok I was clarifying. I would opine that hunting midday before November wouldn’t just be fruitless, it would actually be much exponentially more likely to be destructive than productive. If you have unlimited hunting ground or don’t mind slumming it on public ground, then go for it. But for the rest of us with a very limited number of productive hunting spots, hunting midday outside of peak rut is a bad idea. From personal experience, I’ve seen two 150s from 10-2, shot one of those which was my best at the time. Still very difficult for me to sit middle of the day unless I have a known giant around on camera. This might be one of those years.... I feel hunting before late October is destructive on my hunting land. Each property is different depending on habitat, crops, and hunting pressure. Most years, I don’t want to shoot a deer early in the season anyway.

Bucks aren’t moving much during daylight, but if they are bedding on the property, the very first cold front on a food source has been a good chance to at least see a shooter. They figure it out quick, and then it’s counterproductive until Halloween.

As the corn comes out, they move to other cover.

I've found late afternoon best for me.
