Whatcha thinking about doing?
If bare root, you better have them ordered.
Order scion? Rootstock?
I could get some Connell Red scion and give it a try again. 30 years ago, I planted one and that record cold winter took it out.
I am going to watch this GRIN Jonsib for a bit, but maybe it should go on a rootstock instead of just on a limb of a flowering crab. I have a Rescue crab that doesn’t impress me and maybe should convert it to Grin Jonsib.
Maybe pipsqueak, but my luck with that is like Stu’s with Bastians Orange Flesh.
I will be wintering two deer crabs in pots in the garden along with a rootsucker from the old chestnut crab. That one may go up north. I converted several of those rootsuckers to Big Dog and Buckman crab. They had been in place for 6-7 years and were all ready fruiting.

I've got a number of rootstocks in the ground for next year. Some are failed grafts and others are some top pieces of rootstocks that I shoved in pots and then transplanted out after they rooted a couple years ago. Others are wild crab seedlings. I'll be grafting those as well as doing a bunch of top works to small fruited wild crabs. Adding a few more varieties to some franken trees too. I'm only adding one new variety to my orchards. The rest of my grafts will be focusing on getting multiples of what I already have.
Oh yeah, I'll plant 5 wild apple plugs from Univ. of ID too. I'll probably let those grow for a year or two before grafting. Maybe I'll let some of those go and not graft them over.

I have a list of trees available if anybody strikes out on their orders. Not a whole lot, but a variety to choose from.
I will be plopping a few trees in where I have permission to hunt. It's a gamble on whether I will continue to get to hunt there in the future when they are producing, but I enjoy the whole process and I'm sure the land owners will enjoy the fact that they are out there.
