I have had several of those Sportsmans gambrels with a cheap block and tackle. They never seemed to work right and would fall apart. Hopefully, this is an improvement and easier for an old man to lift deer. I like to skin them as I raise them.

Do you keep the crank in the same spot when you have a deer on the line? I use a comealong in place of what you got there. Only downside is having to climb a step ladder to work the handle, and had considered going to a set-up like yours, but with the crank at ground level.

I haven’t used it yet, but need to work the bugs out of it. Two pulleys with the crank at ground waist level is a good idea. I would need a longer cable or rope.

I've always used the gambrels with a cheap block and tackle. Biggest thing I found to keep them working good is not getting the ropes/pullies twisted.
