This pond was dry last summer. Our home is in the background.

That's looking pretty good. Is the ice thick enough to walk on yet? That sure looks like a good place to find a late season rooster!

That’s the opposite of my place. Going into the winter with little to no water in normally wet areas.

Years back, someone from Iowa or Missouri sent me some Swamp White Oak Acorns. This is the only tree that has done well. The other tree here at home was destroyed when the deer got the cage off. The two trees up north are not even knee high.

Yesterday, I made another loop. I have a few scrapes in my woods, but I have only found two rubs. Does this mean the deer were elsewhere prerut? It looks to me like there is a scrape right at the base of the stand where I shot my ten pointer. A doe was standing right there just shortly before I shot my buck.

There was a scrape on the berm from this waterhole. I didn’t find this waterhole until we had lived here about ten years. it got a bit deeper during a dry year about 10-15 years ago. I haven’t been in this area since last spring. It was probably dry last summer.

Here is the picture I took from my deer stand, six days previous to finding the base of the stand pawed out. There is no overhanging branch. A hunter and I were talking today and wondering if the steps could act like the overhanging branch.
