We have another CWD gun season that starts tomorrow, so I'm not getting too excited until a buck makes it through the weekend. I recall being able to hunt deer from mid September until (maybe through?) March at the old place thanks to CWD. I think the WIDNR stopped that nonsense, but I could be wrong. I knew zero guys personally who ever hunted past January 1, but I'm sure there were some guys shooting deer for as long as they could.

We can hunt thru January 31. It's a joke but I doubt too many people are still out there. Personally I've had enough by thanksgiving. Have never hunted any late season.

I have killed one deer after our rifle season through all of these decades of hunting. That was a muzzleloader kill. I would rather get our venison during rifle season and be done with it.

Back during the years of Earn a Buck, I liked the "holiday hunt" in the CWD zones. Does became pretty scarce back then and shooting one during the regular seasons wasn't all the easy. During the week or so around Christmas, I could usually shoot a doe from my shop. I'd fire up the woodburner and watch bowl games until towards dusk...then "earn" my buck tag for the following archery season by shooting a doe out of the window facing a turnip plot. There were many stories back then about guys picking up roadkills and registering them for buck tags. Also, many stories about when a registration station (remember them?) wouldn't cut the ear on a registered doe so another hunter (and another, and another) could register it and get their buck tag. I recall one season when I might have shot a doe in a non CWD zone and registered it in a CWD/EAB zone.

My cousin is one of those guys that will keep hunting till season closes. I think hes a nut job for doing that. My thought process is if a big one makes it through gun season, he deserves to not get shot.

I'll be lucky if there's a deer left after having these guys around. Had tracks of a pair going threw my property. Tracked them, heading sw out onto my south neighbor. Hopefully, they will be taken care of soon.

Hopefully, they will be taken care of soon. Sad thing is that if there are two, they will probably start a new pack. They have to move as there are no deer in so many areas. I plan on going to a wolf meeting tonight. Word is that the Longville meeting was packed.

One of the few areas in MN with snow on the ground according to friends who have been to the cities and back.

Happy to see this guy is still alive. I had 1 encounter with him this year. He busted me reaching for binos and got a little spooked.
