How heavy would you have to plant field corn (Menards corn) for an effective plot screen? Wont be 8 feet tall when over planted but 5 tall likely accomplish goals, and nothing stands in snow like corn. Round up ready plot screen would be a nice add.

Disc throw disc pack, or disc throw disc

Disc throw disc pack, or disc throw disc The answer would vary with the soil. Too dense and it won’t grow tall. Good heavy soil might take a heavier stocking rate than light soil. Would you plant later as you want a screen and not a feed source? Dang spell check

If you know the area it came from....that may indicate the number of growing days. Shorter maturities to the north. I bought a bag of Egyptian Wheat / Sorgum mix from GCC to do this very thing. I was really happy with the results I got from Egyptian Wheat in the past. Amazing screen. Best Use: When to Plant: Planting Conditions: Planting Rate: The View Blocker blend is specifically designed to create an annual tall screen to block the view of your food plots from roads and neighbors. It includes four sorghum species that range from a 5' tall, stout stemmed dwarf type to Egyptian Wheat and long season forage sorghum that can grow 10-12' tall. The shorter and stouter species help hold the taller species up during the late winter cold weather. The ratio of species in the mix is designed to produce a screen that will last well into the winter/spring. View Blocker grows massive amounts of biomass while improving the soil’s health. View Blocker should be planted annually during the spring when the soil temperature at 2” deep at 9:00 AM is 60 degrees or warmer. There are lots of websites that report the current soil temperature daily for each county. View Blocker is best seeded using a no-till drill or other seeding device and placing seed at a depth of 3/4" - 1". It can also be broadcast into areas with minimal plant competition such as a new plot or one where a seedbed has recently been prepared. Light incorporation or dragging can help with seed to soil contact but don't cover seeds with more than 3/4” of soil. Plant about 20 pounds per acre when seeding with a no-till drill or other planting implement and 30+ pounds per acre when broadcasting. View Blocker Yield Max long season Sorghum Sudan Egyptian Wheat # Per acre 8 5 3 % in mix 40.0% 25.0% 15.0% $20 for a 10# bag $42 for a 25# bag $34 per acre Pricing Dwarf Forage Sorghum Male Sterlie Forage Sorghum Total: 4 20 20.0% #/acre Seeds in the View Blocker blend have been coated with Elevate Ag's HyprGerm biological stimulant. HyprGerm contains nutrients, hormones and enzymes from kelp extract, worm castings, chitosan, and humic acid for increased seed germination, plant vigor, root growth and soil biological stimulation. Healthier and more vigorous plants will lead to healthier animals and bigger antlers!

How big of an area are you doing? I have planted corn pretty heavy and still had 5’ or better corn when fertilized and with decent rain.

Want to see if its possible to plant an annual that may last a couple few years. Will add nitrogen.

Want to see if its possible to plant an annual that may last a couple few years. Will add nitrogen. When Deer didn’t used to clean out my corn plot, I often let the middle stand through the next summer and fall. There was practically no corn stalks standing by the second hunting season. It usually was a great grassy bedding area, often with foxtail in it.

I'd paper towel test that corn seed and see how they germinate. Might be better to just buy conventional corn and plant it.
