The pics will show you why I need more water on my farm. This little water hole is maybe 3 feet deep, has a spring of some kind to keep it open even in the winter. The deer pile into this even though it is in the middle of a crop field. I need 2-3 more sources like this for multiple areas to use, and so they get there before dark.
Early in the year there is crop all around it and they visit this water hole during daylight, right now, mostly after dark or right at sunrise.

A lot if does hit it, as well as turkeys and coyotes. Bucks there most nights.

Definitely happy with my small water tub I put up this summer. That looks like a killer spot

Add a rub post and licking branch next to it. I like cedar for the post with an oak licking branch. Start adding some scent to it in August. I often save forehead skin and tarsal glands from deer that were killed elsewhere for this. I believe the scent from an "intruder" encourages daylight activity once the pre-rut starts to ramp up.
Some great bucks! I really like the 3rd one down.

If it's a #1 improvement kind of deal, can you get a small excavator and dig some water holes? Something like that shouldn't take more than an hour per hole if you have natural spots that just need to be made deeper. I wanna go back and finish mine by the SPC to make it safer for Foggy when he does the triple lindy off the end of the swinging digger. I've got it about a quarter of the way done, and I think I've got maybe three more hours on it to get it to the depth and size that it'll hold water, ducks, and minnows in the driest of years.

Good points, yeah I think I will hire a guy with an excavator and do it up right, possibly dig this hole out more as well. The rub post is a great idea, and to be honest, we had no idea they came in to the water hole so frequently until we put a camera in there.
I do have a stand 35 yards to the east and have sat there a few times, but have never seen any nice bucks, just young ones.

We also have a pond in the timber that is about 250 yds to the west, but it is dry right now.

Most pics I've posted on this site have come from my waterhole/rub post. My waterhole dries up often but deer still visit it, nose down and searching. I believe it is as much of scent communicator as a scrape.

Maybe you get lucky and poke a hole in the natural water line and steer it back underground?

If so, I’d be taking a little bit out of production to screen it from being so open after the crops are out. I’m guessing that you can extend the daytime usage if you do own that field. If not, I’d still be trying to get a screen or more cover near it on your side of the fence.

It’s right in middle of some good crop land. My renter would probably have a coronary if I put a screen in there.
It’s also an area for equipment to cross. I am adding 16 acres of CRP,,but that is on the steeper part of the hillsides. Not on the good crop ground.

So not sure if there’s a spring or not.
