I dont have a whole lot of grit/graveling areas for the turkeys at my place for the turkeys besides the road and a really thick creek bottom. Intersection of a winter wheat plot decided to dump 2 big scoops of sand. Also dropped a 50lb bag of crushed oyster shells out to offer some calcium for the egg laying in spring. Was hoping the sand pile might serve as a nice dust bathing spread too....BUT They made short work of them need a bigger pile. But seem to definitely be attractive if your low in the grit department. Scratched out and tracks everywhere Sept 11 Dec 12.

I like it. Never thought to do it. I have some sandy trails in the woods plus a driveway so I don’t know if they would use it. Seems like an easy thing to try.

If they have easy access to the grit anywhere it will probably not make a big difference, but it might sweeten the spot or make them use the area more frequently. We have a giant pile sitting around at the barn so I figured why not. I'm really curious on the oyster shells too I'm gonna get a couple more scoops out in spring and put a camera on it. My chickens love scratching and getting dusted off in the sand so it was their idea

Sandbox for Turkeys? HA! Fitting! Ugh! Trooper, Batman and I have a disagreement about turkeys. He likes the things. I would like to see everyone in the area gone. My place is known as the Sandbox.

What did they turkeys do to you sandbur? Lolol When I see turkeys in the woods, I don’t see a deer. My woods is thick and I feel the deer don’t like the racket. I also think they keep pheasants out of the corn Foodplot. Best of all, it gives Batman and me something to argue about!

He encourages invasive Chinese chickens to eat his corn, and is maddened when other birds do the same. He often stretches the truth about his turkey/deer sightings. Smollet sized exaggeration.

Pheasants beat them in two ways. Some even like goats and sheep. We better stop stealing the thread.

That's always been on my things I should try list for the grouse. Never seem to get around to it. Martin on Martin’s Cabin (The Northwoodsman) does it for the spruce grouse. He drags the proper soil a long way. The spruce grouse love it.
