I should have picked up that sprayer a few weeks later Art.... then I could have ravaged you garden along side all the deer! you are welcome to some if we have things to spare. We have cut back from two gardens to one, now that the girls are gone. This year I only planted one hill of each squash variety instead of two hills. The deer will have less squash to eat this year, but yesterday I did plant some radishes and turnips in the corner of the garden where the potatoes were.

I strung hose to the main garden earlier. The wife just finished up picking what she wanted for today, and I fired up the sprinkler. If that doesn't make it rain, I don't know what will...
edit...it appears to have worked. Looks like right around .4" in the rain gauge. I'm still watering the garden though. It really needs a good inch or so.

Learned something tonight and figured sharing it on this thread made as much sense as anywhere.
I've talked with a local gal about making cabbage rolls and sauerkraut a number of times. Tonight, I learned she doesn't parboil the cabbage leaves before making cabbage rolls. She fucking freezes the heads of cabbage over night. Then lets them thaw the next day and peels them off. You still need to cut the rib out of the leaves, but it sounds much easier than fucking around with a head of cabbage in a boiling pot of water and peeling the leaves off.
If you don't make or eat cabbage rolls you're missing out.

The ones I make are Italian. Basically stuffed shells but with cabbage leaves.

I picked up some garlic from a lady ( master gardener) for pickles and she gave me directions on planting some of it.
I wonder how SD did with the garlic planting.

I think NH grows garlic too. I’ve never done it but probably should.

My wife picked/snapped/bagged/froze 10 quarts of beans last night. She's working on a bunch more tonight. I told her we could probably cut back to a single row of beans next year

Had the first tomato of the year tonight. We have had a bunch of cherry tomatoes previously, but those don't really count. We'll be eating BLTs (actually BLTCOs) all weekend
