I am getting most of my FIL’s guns. Around 15 assorted shotguns and rifles. I have 6-7 long guns in a cheap gun safe. Any recommendations on a good gun safe and tips how to get it in the house.

www.snapsafe.com/I remember seeing this on the Q site. I don’t have one but I might get one some day when my collection expands. Every safe I have helped move was through back breaking work. I have used pipe to roll them along the ground. Stick to first floor only on a traditional safe.

Look on Craigslist or Facebook marketplace for a safe. You'll find them way cheaper then buying new.

I have a Fort Knox and am very happy with it. You have to hire to have them installed as the good safes weigh allot and are awkward.

I have a browning safe and love it. For greater fire protection you can also have a smaller safe inside a large one.

My safes are rated to like 1200 degrees. Not sure I need a small safe inside.
but what do I know.
I dont recall the brands on mine. they are different. Not high dollar ones.

A firefighter told me the fire proof safes don’t matter. If your house goes up they will not hold up. I think I am going to be limited to what I can move compared to what I want.

That's what I have always understood. It doesn't matter which fire proof safe you have, if the house burns down the safe won't save what's inside.

I bought a gun cabinet (vented) figuring if there is a fire my guns are covered by insurance. Not that I want to lose any of them, but might with a heavy safe anyway.

I look at my gun safe in a different way. Not so much to protect them from fire but from theft.

I look at my gun safe in a different way. Not so much to protect them from fire but from theft. That was my main concern too. I went with a 350 pound kodiac. It was the biggest one I could move myself. Next size up was 550 pounds. I was pissed because their web site said veteran owned company. I try to buy American on any big purchases. Got it unloaded and in big letters on the box Made In China. Shame on them for playing the veteran card and then manufacturing in China.

Buy what is cheap and works for you. The fire part is a no-go.....I dont know a single soul who had a burned up gun. The big thing is to just keep em locked up from the average theif. Buy a bit more insurance if you worry allot. They are just guns (unless you have huge collectables). Most of just own tools.
