I look at my gun safe in a different way. Not so much to protect them from fire but from theft. That was my main concern too. I went with a 350 pound kodiac. It was the biggest one I could move myself. Next size up was 550 pounds. I was pissed because their web site said veteran owned company. I try to buy American on any big purchases. Got it unloaded and in big letters on the box Made In China. Shame on them for playing the veteran card and then manufacturing in China. It may have been a veteran owned company that outsources to China.

Buy what is cheap and works for you. The fire part is a no-go.....I dont know a single soul who had a burned up gun. The big thing is to just keep em locked up from the average theif. Buy a bit more insurance if you worry allot. They are just guns (unless you have huge collectables). Most of just own tools. That’s my thinking too. I got a lockable cabinet from SecureIt Gun Storage. I throw a combo lock on the and it has reinforced doors. I guess if someone comes in the a sawzall they are going to get them, But if they want them that bad, well probably not stopping them.

^ That is similar to what I do too in AZ. I do have a locking closet......and inside are some cheap locking steel gun cabinets. If somebody wants those guns that bad.....then I guess they will get them. To me......its to keep average folks from easily stealing guns or unauthorized use. In my case you have to break through two doors .....plus gain entry to my home. I dont get spending big bucks on the heay fireproof safes......but folks buy them. So....there is that.

Allot depends on if you are going to display the safe in your home. Some people have them in their family rooms etc. and then a good-looking safe makes sense. If it's going in a closet, then it doesn't matter. I purchased a Cannon Gun Safe from Costco that I put in my closet in Arizona. It's not fancy but does what its suppose to. My Fort Knox in Minnesota is the type you can put in a living space, it's a really nice looking safe.
