My dad (and me sometimes) planted nearly every tree on my property today when I was just a lad. Definitely passed on down to me and sure appreciate the privacy and beauty!

Dad and my maternal Grandma's "male friend" (her husband died in his late 40s, she never re-married) planted a shitload of pines on the old place. That was in the mid 60s. They planted some more in the early 70s. I got to watch those trees mature through out my life until my mid 40s. Dad would take me out to choose and cut Christmas trees from those plantings for years. Compared to today's $150+ Christmas trees, those naturally grown trees would like shit. We didn't even notice back then. The bare spaces would get filled in with ornaments and tinsel.
Mom and Dad bought and sold a couple chunks of "vacation" ground from sometime in the 70s until 1982. In '82 they traded 75 acres of jackpine, blueberries, and sand (New Miner, WI) for 99 acres of jack pine, scrub oak, bad cattle pasture, and $20K for the cabin/buildings about 30 minutes south. They got lucky. A potato farmer bought the rest of the square mile they were part of and needed their ground so he could run a center pivot.
Dad and I planted hundreds of trees on that chunk of ground for many years. Early on, I needed a kick in the shorts to get involved. Many years later, Dad needed that same kick in the shorts to go out and plant trees with me.
Great memories. Thanks Dad

My Dad and Grandpa planted their open acres in white spruce(which didn’t do well) and then Norway pines in the ‘60’s under a government program when they quit farming. My wife and I have had two harvests from those pines.
I still call them Norway pines. Others call them red pines.
