Any recommendations for what I should use for ground cover for my new orchard? next spring. Plan now is to plant rye and a mix of clovers around September 1st. but wondering if I should do something different. its close to the house so I can keep it mowed. pic is from earlier this summer

Are you going to spray the trees? I assume you mean around the bases, then yes I think that would be my plan as of now

If so, I wouldn't plant anything that flowers in the orchard. You either need to mow all the flowers off a few days before spraying, or accept that you're killing a shitload of pollinators every time you spray. I used to have clover in my orchards. There's still a bit left in spots, but most of the ground cover is now grass of some sort. I do get a shit load of dandelions in the spring and that does complicate spraying. I do my best to mow the flowers off before spraying.
