Tried growing oyster mushrooms for the first time this spring. I’ve done shiitake for a few years now and the oyster process is the same except I use tulip poplar logs. This is my first harvest.

That closest cluster looked like this on Friday. It had been that size for a few days and blew up between Saturday and Monday.

As a retired farm vet, I was expecting something else.
Still cool to see.

Cut oyster shrooms tonight. This is a sign January is way too warm.

Do you have mushrooms growing inside your house? Those are some trophy class mushrooms!

Logs are in the backyard. It hit 60 a couple days this week there has been a lot of rain for almost 2 weeks. I checked them thinking there wasn’t a chance but I hate finding shrooms past prime.
I have moved logs into my garage that were about to sprout before a cold front. That gave a last harvest before winter.
These are tulip poplar seeded last spring.

That's crazy, I always thought Ohio was a little warmer but that's practically tropical January weather!

It was unusual. We are back to mid 30s today. Glad I found the shrooms when I did.

That is crazy! I haven't even looked for shrooms for a while. These are farmed. Not wild.

That is crazy! I haven't even looked for shrooms for a while. These are farmed. Not wild. I know that, but they are still outside. I bet we had some oysters up that I didn't even look for.

Are there any oyster look a likes in the wild? I think I found some last spring but they were past prime so I didn’t sample.
